BoostLab5-2: Green2Black - Holistic development of a polysaccharide fiber and validation of the implementation potential in the Rhenish mining area

Project duration

January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024

Project partners

RWTH Aachen, ITA (Institute of Textile Technology), ITMC (Institute of Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry), AVT.FVT (Fluid Process Engineering)

Project description

The aim of the present initiative is to manufacture the commodity chemical acrylonitrile (ACN), which is currently produced from fossil fuel, on the basis of renewable raw materials, for example glycerol, and to locate both production and processing, to materials such as polyacrylonitrile, PAN, or carbon fibers, CF, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers, ABS, nitrile rubber, AB, and their products made from it, in the Rheinisches Revier. This opens up part of the fossil fuel-based product tree for renewable raw materials and makes use of the existing infrastructure.
