Subprojects

 

The competence center Bio4MatPro "Competence Center for the Biological Transformation of Materials Science and Production Engineering" is part of the Bioeconomy Model Region in the Rhenish Mining Area funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF. In the first five-year project phase, from 2022 to 2026, more than 60 partners from academia and industry are working together to research and implement the biological transformation of industries such as textiles, plastics, industrial biotechnology, lightweight construction and the production technology required for this transformation.

Sustainable structural change – away from petrochemical feedstocks towards renewable raw materials and job creation – is what drives us.

Bio4MatPro defines six so-called BoostLabs BoostLab1 to BoostLab6, which comprise 23 collaborative projects. The BoostLabs are clustered in three thematic areas:

  1. BoostLab1: From renewable raw materials to valuable materials.
  2. BoostLab2 and BoostLab3: Basic-oriented BoostLabs for future technologies
  3. BoostLab4 to BoostLab6: Biological transformation using the example of application industries.

At RWTH Aachen University, DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials and Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, UKA, alone, a total of 28 postdoctoral positions, 32 doctoral positions and 18 positions for technical staff are available in Bio4MatPro.
